The European Council faced critical political challenges from 1 December 2014 to 30 April 2016. These included unprecedented flows of asylum seekers and irregular migrants; the need to find a new settlement for Greece, regarding its future as a euro member, and for Britain — ahead of an In/Out referendum on EU membership. European leaders also had to respond to serious security threats, both internal and external.

President Donald Tusk gives an overview of the European Council's work during the period under review and the report lists the most important political decisions and statements
