Book abstract:

This book adopts a practical approach in examining the effects of the euro on international business. It is edited by David Kemp, who is the Director of ABN Amro Bank in London, and is based on the expertise of the bank's specialists rather than academics. The purpose of the book is to provide guidance to multinational companies in summarising the current status of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) including certain advantages and disadvantages that are becoming apparent as well as offering a guide for the future in terms of investment.

The book has three parts. The first looks at the regulatory and economic environment. It examines the institutions and legal framework of the EMU, the economics of EMU and the foreign exchange outlook for the UK, Sweden and Denmark, the three European Union Member States who have not joined the single currency. The second section examines EMU and Corporate Finance Officer (CFO) decision making. This looks at what euro markets can offer multinationals and strategies that can be adopted by CFOs. The third section examines issues arising from EMU for the corporate treasurer including euro cash management and tax in the EU and direct tax harmonisation. The practical approach of the book is supplemented by relevant recent case studies.

The book is aimed at finance professionals, investors and corporate strategists.
