The euro, 2nd ed.:
One of the best books of 1997 on the implications and issues surrounding the prospective arrival of the single currency was 'The euro' edited by Paul Temperton and published by John Wiley. As 1 January 1999 approaches a second edition of the title has been produced. However, it should be made clear that the second edition is not simply a minor updating and revision of the first edition. Of the twenty three chapters in the book, fifteen are entirely new, and many of the others have been significantly revised.

The book addresses the impending economic, financial and business issues to be faced in the new financial landscape of a single currency. Contributors, who are some of the leading analysts in Europe from the worlds of banking, finance, economics, regulation, accountancy and business consultancy, look at the practical implications and operation of the euro by asking: how will the euro be created; how it will relate to national currencies; how well the 'Euroland' economy will work; and what will be the implications for markets, companies and consumers. This is an essential book for organisations and individuals interested in the subject, but do not throw away the first edition, for some of its chapters remain relevant.
