The EU, ethnic minorities and migrants at the workplace:
Since Maastricht the category of 'EU citizenship' has existed for all nationals of EU Member States, but not all enjoy the equal rights that this supposedly confers. Many ethnic minorities who are EU nationals suffer from discrimination in their own states and find the situation worse still if they attempt to move. Furthermore, there are millions who are legal residents in one EU country but who have no citizenship rights and therefore cannot move freely within the Union. Legal and racial discrimination thus interact in the labour market. In this concise book, one of the European Dossier Series, the author, a Senior Researcher at the Danish Centre for Migration and Ethnic Studies, South Jutland University Centre, examines the problems faced by different categories of workers in various EU Member States, provides examples of good practice and considers what the EU could and should do to help provide equal employment opportunity for all.
