Summary: Joint Communication presented in May 2019 by the European Commission and the High Representative for the European Union, which puts forward a new framework strategy for the relations between the European Union (EU) and the countries of Central Asia. Further information: This Joint Communication - adopted on 15 May 2019 - aims at forging a deeper partnership between the European Union and the countries of Central Asia, following up on the cooperation developed in the framework of the 2007 EU Strategy on Central Asia. Developments in the region further opened up new opportunities for taking the EU-Central Asia partnership forward. The renewed Strategy builds upon lessons learnt from EU engagement in the region, take into consideration other relevant strategies put forward by the European Union. The Council of the European Union endorsed this renewed Strategy and adopted a set of conclusions on 17 June. These conclusions complemented the Communication in putting together a renewed framework for the relations between the EU and Central Asia. |
