The economic accounts of the European Union 1996

The economic accounts of the European Union 1996:
Eurostat, in collaboration with a number of national statistical institutes, has published 'The economic accounts of the European Union 1996', which is described as one of the first milestones on the road to collaborative development of the European Statistical System (ESS).

The report is designed to set out in a single volume wide-ranging macroeconomic data on the European Union and the Member States and to provide statistical analysis of the data. The major sections of the report are:

- Economy of the Union

- Economy by branch in the Union

- Private households in the Union

- General government in the Union

- Labour market in the Union

- Prices, conversion rates and interest rates in the Union.

In addition, it is intended that there will be a topical study in each edition. This year's subject concerns the treatment of Gross Domestic Product and unemployment in the regions of the European Union. Eurostat intends to publish the title on an annual basis and the 1997 edition is the second edition.
