The latest annual progress reports by the European Commission for each of the countries hoping to join the European Union were published on 13 November 2001. Commenting on the reports, European Commission officials said they saw no reason why up to ten countries could not be ready to join the European Union by 2004. This could mean that the EU is contemplating its biggest enlargement since it was formed 50 years ago. |
