Squads of border guards, interpreters and medics from across the EU could be swiftly deployed to member states overwhelmed by the arrival of illegal immigrants, under a plan unveiled by the European Commission 19 July 2006. The European Commission presented a proposal for a Regulation establishing a mechanism for the creation of Rapid Border Intervention Teams and amending the Regulation establishing the FRONTEX Agency ( Council Regulation (EC) No. 2007/2004) as regards that mechanism.
