Greek taxi drivers staged a 48-hour strike, 18-19 July 2011 blocked roads leading to Athens International Airport and the port of Piraeus, causing chaos at the peak of the summer tourist season.

The striking drivers were protesting against a government decision to lift restrictions on issuing taxi licences in a move to open up more than 140 'closed-shop' professions.
