Targeting Turkey: How Germany Spies on Its Friends

For more than a year during 2013-14 German officials criticised the US for the NSA's mass spying on Europeans and even Chancellor Angela Merkel. In August 2014, embarrassing revelations showed that Germany had inadvertently spied on Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, and had also deliberately targeted Turkey.

On the 18 August 2014 the Turkish foreign ministry summoned the German ambassador over the reports.
