Taking data protection into a digital and globalised era: Joint Statement by Vice-President Ansip and Commissioner Jourová ahead of the 2017 Data Protection day

On 27 January 2017 the European Commission released a Joint Statement by Vice-President Ansip and Commissioner Jourová ahead of the 2017 Data Protection day. Every year on 28 January, the European Commission celebrates European Data Protection day. In the statement they mentioned the progress they have made for data protection in the EU, which includes data reform that stimulated the Digital Single Market in the EU. They then went on to talk of the challenges of ensuring the rules work in practice and the importance of strong data protection rules in the EU.
