Sweden's Interior Minister Anders Ygeman told Sweden’s Dagens Industri newspaper on the 27 January 2016 that he believed that at least 60,000, and possibly as many as 80,000 of the 163,000 who sought asylum in Sweden in 2015 would have their applications rejected, meaning they will be returned either to their home countries or to the European country responsible under EU rules. Approximately, 163,000 migrants applied for asylum in Sweden in 2015, the highest per capita number in Europe. The Local.se reported on the 29 January 2016 that an inquiry would be carried out by the Swedish parliament’s Constitutional Committee (KU), which was responsible for checking that Swedish governments follow regulations for government work, over the Swedish government’s failure to take rapid action when authorities were overwhelmed by the refugee crisis in the summer of 2015. |
