By mid-October 2015 more refugees had sought asylum in Sweden in 2015 than in any other year in the Nordic nation's history, figures released by Sweden's Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) indicated. 86,223 people had already launched their cases in 2015. On the 12 October 2015 the Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven launched a cross-party conference on the refugee crisis in Sweden. He said that helping new arrivals to integrate into Swedish society was a key concern. 'It is a huge task for the whole of Swedish society' said Mr Löfven. Swedish police said on 23 October that a sword-wielding man who killed two people at a school with many immigrant pupils had been motivated by racism, mounting to concerns over hostility towards refugees. Later in the month, the Swedish ministry for Justice and Migration announced that new rules aimed at tightening the country's migration policies to discourage further asylum seekers from seeking to enter the country would not come into force until 2016 or 2017. |
