The agreement covers a period of four years, with the possibility of a two-year extension. The need for a new agreement arose from the expiration of the previous Fisheries Partnership Agreement (FPA) on 30 December 2020. The EU's intention was also to integrate certain provisions of Regulation (EU) No 1380/2013 on theĀ Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) that the FPA does not cover. Negotiations for the SFPA were concluded on 8 January 2021 and the Agreement was signed on 22 April 2021. |
