Abstract No concept in legal discourse is more contested than the Rule of Law. The Rule of Law is a component of constitutionalism and both feature as legitimating pillars of the new European Union Constitution. In this article, the author examines these concepts and their utilisation and expression in a supranational constitution that has drawn on the inspiration of national constitutionalism.
