Entre Nous has obtained what we believe to be the EU photographic scoop of 1998.

The table pictured above was where UK Prime Minister Tony Blair sat and brokered his “a bit messy” compromise over who should head the European Central Bank.

The 12 empty glasses, coincidentally equal to the number of hours over which the summit 'lunch' went on as the key players battled it out, reveal at which end of the table Blair sat, while French President Jacques Chirac, German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, Dutch Prime Minister Wim Kok and his candidate for the ECB presidency Wim Duisenberg trooped in and out.
