Some €400 million of the new European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for 2000-2006 has been allocated for 'innovative projects in under-competitive regions'. The Commission has now published guidelines for these projects. The proposals are aimed at three key areas of opportunity in the modern economy: developing regional economies based on knowledge and technological innovation; supporting the Commission's 'e-Europe' initiative on the information society and, in particular, extending the benefits to the regions; promoting regional identity and sustainable development. |
