Straw rules out an autumn euro campaign

Jack Straw, UK Foreign Secretary, said on 24 July 2001 that the Government will not campaign for Britain's euro membership until after an economic assessment suggested that Britain should adopt the European single currency. The assessments may last until June 2003.
