Straw calls for tighter common policy on asylum across the EU

The UK government has renewed its efforts to secure a cohesive European policy on asylum by calling for tighter common standards governing refugee status. Jack Straw, Home Secretary, told the London-based Foreign Press Association, 25 April 2001, that European Union member states needed to work towards “a more rational international system” for the protection of refugees.
