Ireland is committed to reducing emissions of four transboundary air pollutants under the Gothenburg Protocol to the 1979 Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution to Abate Acidification, Eutrophication and Ground-Level Ozone and EU Directive 2001/81/EC. This discussion paper aims to provide a better understanding of the scale of the reductions and serve as a basis for discussions between and within sectors, of the economically most efficient means to achieve Ireland's national targets.
