This edition contains an expanded chapter of thematic essays to give the reader broader insight into these important trends, focusing its analysis of domestic events on those that affect relations between countries. Essay topics include: The Drivers of Strategic Change chapter identifies the most important overarching trends in each region, using select data and other indicators. The Strategic Geography section includes maps on China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the development of the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL), and the impact of sanctions on Russia. |
