On the 22 February 2014, the Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response welcomed the adoption of a United Nations Security Council Resolution on the humanitarian situation in Syria.

The commissioner was relieved that the situation of the Syrian people was finally recognised by the international community and hoped that it would be a turning point while awaiting a political solution to the crisis.
