On the 12 April 2017 the Spokesperson commented on the seven executions by lethal injection, which are scheduled by the US State of Arkansas for the period between 17 April and 27 April. These executions would break the de-facto moratorium on the death penalty observed by this US State since November 2005. The statement expressed that the European Union opposes capital punishment as it fails to deter crime and is an unacceptable denial of human dignity. The Spokesperson pleaded to the Governor of Arkansas grant the inmates relief from the death penalty. |
