The European Court of Human Rights confirmed, on the 8 March 2017 until further notice the suspension of the enforcement of Georgia’s Supreme Court verdict of 2 March concerning the ownership rights of the Rustavi 2 TV Company. After this decision, the European Union reiterated that a continued commitment to political pluralism and freedom of the media is fundamental for the preservation and consolidation of democracy. The European Union trusted that the Georgian Government would treat these principles as an absolute priority and would actively uphold them, corresponding to essential commitments in the EU-Georgia Association Agreement. |
