The closure, on the 9 February 2017, of the Al-Nadeem Center for Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence was a development of particular concern for the European Union. The Center has played a critical role in treating victims of violence and was an important source of expertise in the field of torture.

The fight against torture is a long standing human rights priority of the European Union and a common objective for all parties to the Convention Against Torture including Egypt.
