State of play in Turkish-EU ties: Turkey remains firm on EU path

The new EU Strategy, put forward by Turkey's Secretariat General for EU Affairs, aims to ensure alignment with the EU acquis at the highest level by 2013. So far Turkey has opened 13 of 33 chapters and provisionally closed one. The current focus is on three chapters that face no political obstacles: Competition Policy, Public Procurement, and Social Policy and Employment. The first of these is expected to open in the early days of 2011.
