Summary: Isabel Carrasco, head of a provincial government in Spain and a member of the governing Partido Popular (PP), was shot dead on 12 May 2014 as she crossed a footbridge. Further information: A woman was arrested on the same day by police and confessed the crime, telling investigators she had held a grudge against the leader of the provincial government since her daughter lost her job at the council a few years before. All the main political parties temporarily suspended campaigning for the European Parliament election as a mark of respect. |
