The ship was confiscated in the Italian port of Pozzallo, Sicily. The Spanish NGO was accused of favouring illegal immigration since it violated international agreements according to which immigrants coming from Libya should have been handed over to Libyan authorities. An Italian prosecutor ordered an investigation into three crew members: the captain, the charity's founder Òscar Camps and a coordinator. On 27 March, at a European Parliament press conference, Òscar Camps expressed his concern about members of his organisation who face the possibility of prison sentences. On 19 March 2018 the ship of the Spanish NGO Proactiva Open Arms was seized by Italian authorities. |
