The Spanish Government introduced an amnesty on 7 February 2005 for illegal immigrants. From that date foreigners who can produce a job contract and proof they have lived in Spain for more than six months will be given one-year residence permits. The Government's aim is to clamp down on the exploitation of migrant labour.
