The European Union has a project aimed at boosting the use of solar air conditioning systems for residential and commercial buildings called Solair. The project started running only this year but it has a budget of just under €1.2 million for the next three years. Project co-ordinator Andreas Steege of Target, a Hannover-based company specialising in renewable energies and environmentally friendly technology, said that solar air condition technology was "at the very beginning of market implementation". The project’s aims are to collect best practice examples and demonstrate the technology as well as running training courses for planners and installers. There will be a pilot project in Puglia, south-eastern Italy as well as participation at the Clima 2007 conference in Helsinki in June on indoor climate, innovative heating and cooling solutions and building design.
