Slovenia held a referendum on 15-20 December 2015 on same-sex marriage, with most parties in Parliament urging voters to back the proposed law.

However, a majority of the voters rejected the law that would have allowed for same-sex marriage, in what was considered a binding result.

The referendum winners later stated they would not oppose a law expanding the rights of same-sex unions, provided that it would not allow for adoption or a redefinition of marriage.
