The newly formed party of Miro Cerar (SMC) won the parliamentary election in Slovenia held on the 13 July 2014. His party received 34.8% of votes, the main rival, centre-right Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), received 20.6% of votes. Commentators noted the significant economic challenges the new government would face and, in particular, how to implement an economic reform package already agreed with the EU which involved the privatisation of various state-owned enterprises. Slovenia's parliament approved on the 18 September 2014 the centre-left coalition government of Prime Minister Miro Cerar. |
