A stabilisation fund for eurozone countries in financial trouble appears unlikely to start operations in early July 2010 because of the reluctance of Slovakia's incoming government to approve the initiative.

Slovakia was alone among the eurozone's 16 nations in raising objections to the €440bn fund and was coming under intense pressure from other governments as well as the European Commission to abandon its resistance.
