Feature looks at the situation in the Slovak Republic as regards the campaign for the elections to the European Parliament held in May 2014.

The Slovak prime minister Robert Fico announced on the 22 February 2014 that the vice-president of the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovič, would head the European Parliament election campaign of the ruling Social Democratic Party in Slovakia and would be again the country’s candidate for commissioner.

Slovakia was the EU country with the lowest turnout in the EU election, with around 13% of the electorate showing up to vote.
