The UK Government announced in the 2004 Pre-Budget Report that Sandy Leitch, Chairman of the National Employment Panel and formerly a Chief Executive of Zurich Financial Services, had been asked to lead an independent review to examine the future skill needs of the UK economy. The Review would attempt to identify the UK’s optimal skills mix in 2020 to maximise economic growth, productivity and social justice, and to consider the policy implications of achieving the level of change required. The Interim Report was published in December 2005. The Leitch Review will report its final conclusions and recommendations to the Government in 2006.
