Single Market programme:
Internal Market Council, Brussels, 27.11.97. The Council held an open debate on the state of play regarding implementation of the Action Plan for the Internal Market. It also held a discussion on the subject of legislative simplification and the SLIM Programme. A Common Position was reached on the proposal for an action programme to improve awareness of Community law for the legal profession (Robert Schuman project). The Council reached a Political Agreement by a qualified majority on a Common Position on a Directive on the legal protection of biotechnological inventions. The Council reached a Political Agreement, by a qualified majority, on a Common Position on a proposal for a Directive relating to the provision of information in the field of technical standards and regulations. The Council reached a Political Agreement, by a qualified majority, on a Common Position for a Directive on supplementary supervision of insurance undertakings in an insurance group. The Council reached a Political Agreement on a Common Position onin vitro diagnostic medical devices. A discussion, but no agreement, took place on the proposal relating to chocolate and cocoa products for human consumption. A discussion also took place on the proposal relating to a European Company Statute.
