Abstract: The development of a centralized drinking water supply system is integral to the emergence and sustainability of the modern city. Urbanization and economic growth in the twentieth century co-evolved with the ‘industrialization’ of drinking water production and delivery. This resulted in large-scale, centralized infrastructures and institutions to capture, transfer, treat and distribute water to the city. |
