Serbia's parliament approved on the 3 August 2012 a new central bank law criticised by the EU and IMF, who said it stripped away the bank's independence. The central bank's governor, Dejan Soskic, resigned on the 2 August 2012 in protest at the new law. The FT reported on the 8 August 2012 that Serbia was likely to face renewed international criticism after appointing a ruling party official, Jorgovanka Tabakovic, as head of the country’s central bank. |
