Britain's Home Secretary Charles Clarke told MEPs in the European Parliament on 13 July 2007 that, in the fight against terrorism in Europe, security must take priority - despite the concern of many MEPs that citizens' rights could be undermined by EU measures designed to prevent terrorist attacks such as the one that devastated London on 7 July 2005.
