Date: 10/10/1996 Technological progress ran into a brick wall at the summit. One member of the press corps was called upon to write a profile of European Parliament President Klaus Hänsch, and was directed to a parliamentary official to help fill in some vital details. The official beamed and handed out a cardboard folder complete, he assured his inquisitor, with all the information he might need. The grateful biographer dashed back to his desk. But it was only after assuring his office that a detailed analysis of this head of neither state nor government would soon be despatched that he opened the folder. Out fell a CD-Rom. Where do I stick this? he pleaded. Several helpful colleagues were only too pleased to offer advice. |
