In April 2016 the Saudi cabinet endorsed a sweeping set of programmes and reforms to be implemented by 2030.

Low oil prices and a new generation of leadership could help push through the economic reforms needed in the post-oil age. A new social contract will have to follow.

Background

Saudi Vision 2030 is a plan to reduce Saudi Arabia's dependence on oil, diversify its economy, and develop public service sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, recreation and tourism.
