Sarkozy ‘won’t stop Turkey talks’

Nicolas Sarkozy, France’s new president, has given Turkey’s European Union hopes a temporary reprieve, despite his fierce opposition to Ankara joining the 27-member bloc. The French news website Le Figaro reported that President Sarkozy will not veto the scheduled start of EU talks with Turkey on three more 'chapters' in the accession negotiations (statistics, financial control and economic and monetary policy). They were set to open on 26 June 2007.
