On the 26 July 207 new rules entered into force in the EU to offer the disabled and the elderly access to air transport comparable to that of any other passengers flying from airports in the European Union. The European Commission believed that these measures would provide an effective response to the needs of a large and – with Europe’s demographic ageing – growing section of the population.

Ryanair, the Irish low-cost airline, is heading for another clash with the European Commission, over the its interpretation of the rules.
