Russian opposition unites against Kremlin

Article reports that Russian opposition leaders have formed a coalition in September 2010 to challenge the Kremlin in forthcoming parliamentary elections in 2011 and presidential elections in 2012, vowing 'mass protests' against the regime.

The new grouping unites a usually fragmented and disparate group of liberal intellectuals and democrats, who belong to various outlawed organisations. But few political observers are giving them much chance of success at rolling back the hegemony of the Kremlin-backed United Russia party, which controls parliament.
