Article reported that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev sought to appease Russia’s protest movement on the 16 January 2012 as the anti-Kremlin mood in the country’s urban centres showed little sign of abating.

The seemingly co-ordinated moves by the Prime Minister and the President appeared to be an attempt to take the wind out of the sails of the movement, which pulled together up to 100,000 supporters in central Moscow on the 24 December 2012 and might exceed that total in a planned 4 February 2012 demonstration in the city.
