Russian exile Nikolai Glushkov found dead in London

On 12 March 2018 the Russian exile Nikolai Glushkov, associate of Putin critic Boris Berezovsky, was found dead in his London home.

The police said there was no link to the poisoning of the Russian former spy Sergei Skripal in Salisbury.

On 16 March the Counter-terror police launched murder investigation after confirming Glushkov was strangled.

Nikolai Glushkov was associate of the oligarch Boris Berezovsky. In 1999, as Berezovsky clashed with Vladimir Putin and fled to the UK, Glushkov was charged with money laundering and fraud. He spent five years in jail and, fearing further arrest, he fled to the UK and was granted political asylum.

In 2011 he gave evidence in a court case brought by Berezovsky against fellow oligarch Roman Abramovich, who remained on good terms with the Kremlin. Glushkov told the court he had effectively been taken hostage by Putin’s administration.

In March 2013 Berezovsky was found dead at his ex-wife’s home in Berkshire. Police said they he killed himself but Glushkov believed he had been murdered.

Berezovsky was also a close associate of Alexander Litvinenko, a former Russian spy poisoned and killed in London in 2006.

On 12 March 2018 the Russian exile Nikolai Glushkov was found dead in London.
