Media sources reported on 17 October 2016 that Russian television network Russia Today (RT) had had its accounts in the United Kingdom frozen, according to information provided by the broadcaster itself.

Britain's NatWest bank decided unilaterally to close all the network's bank accounts, in a decision which could not be reviewed.

The United Kingdom's Treasury department quickly stated that it had had no involvement in the case.

Russia Today is seen as close to the Russian government and often accused of being a mouthpiece to Russia's propaganda.
