Article reported that Russian prosecutors said in October 2011 they are preparing to press new charges against a ring of suspects they claim organised the killing of Anna Politkovskaya, in 2006, a crusading journalist. The announcement was said to reflect Russia’s desire to show progress in solving a killing that tarnished Vladimir Putin’s presidency and raised questions of Russia’s ability to bring to justice the murderers of a journalist who had crusaded against Kremlin corruption and atrocities conducted by the regime in Chechnya. The Russian Investigative Committee pressed formal charges on the 16 July 2012 against a former Moscow policeman Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov accused of organising – but not contracting – the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya. |
