Summary:

This research focuses on the particular challenges faced by the Roma community - a historically marginalised ethnic community from central and eastern Europe - in the context of the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) introduced by the United Kingdom (UK) following its withdrawal from the European Union. The EUSS grants residence rights to EU and EEA citizens who were resident in the EU before the end of 2020.

Many EU citizens resident in the UK continue to struggle to acquire and use their status without support. The Roma community makes up an estimated 5-10% of the roughly 6 million EU citizens in the UK.
