Risk assessment on the spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) through patient transfer between healthcare facilities, with special emphasis on cross-border transfer

This risk assessment from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) concludes that patient transfer between hospitals and in particular between countries, is a risk factor for the spread of highly resistant bacteria such as carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE). This report assesses the risk factors for CPE spread and investigates the effectiveness of infection control measures within healthcare institutions.
